Authentication of Abu Hisham al-Rifai
1. Ibn Hibban — al-Thiqat, vol. 9, p. 109
Ibn Hibban included Abu Hisham al-Rifai in his book al-Thiqat (The Trustworthy Narrators). He noted that he narrated from Abu Bakr ibn Ayyash and that the people of Iraq narrated from him. He also mentioned that he made mistakes and had some objectionable reports.
محمد بن يزيد بن رفاعة بن سماعة، أبو هشام الرفاعي الكوفي، يروي عن أبي بكر بن عياش، روى عنه أهل العراق، مات ببغداد يوم الأربعاء سنة ثمان وأربعين ومائتين، يخطئ ويخالف.
2. Yahya ibn Ma'in — Tarikh Baghdad, vol. 4, p. 597
Yahya ibn Ma'in was asked about Abu Hisham al-Rifai and replied: "I see nothing wrong with him."
سألت يحيى بن معين عن أبي هشام الرفاعي، فقال: ما أرى به بأسا.
3. Salih ibn Ahmad's father — Tarikh Baghdad, vol. 4, p. 597
He said concerning Abu Hisham al-Rifai: "There is nothing wrong with him." He further described him as a good Qur'an reciter.
حدثني أبي قال: أبو هشام الرفاعي كوفي لا بأس به، صاحب قرآن.
4. Al-Dhahabi — Siyar A'lam al-Nubala, vol. 12, p. 153
Al-Dhahabi described Abu Hisham al-Rifai with prominent scholarly titles: "The Imam, the jurist, the Hafiz, the Allama, the judge of Baghdad."
الإمام الفقيه الحافظ العلامة، قاضي بغداد، أبو هشام، محمد بن يزيد بن محمد بن كثير بن رفاعة، العجلي الرفاعي الكوفي المقرئ.
5. Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi — Tarikh Baghdad, vol. 4, p. 595
Al-Khatib records that Abu Hisham was a scholar of legal rulings and a Hafiz of Quranic recitations. He also records that al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated from him.
وكان عالما بالأحكام، وحافظا للقراءات، روى عنه محمد بن إسماعيل البخاري، ومسلم بن الحجاج.
Authentication of Abu Hisham al-Rifai
1. Ibn Hibban — al-Thiqat, vol. 9, p. 109
Ibn Hibban included Abu Hisham al-Rifai in al-Thiqat (The Trustworthy Narrators). He said: "Muhammad ibn Yazid ibn Rifa'a ibn Sama'a, Abu Hisham al-Rifai, from Kufa. He narrated from Abu Bakr ibn Ayyash, and the people of Iraq narrated from him. He died in Baghdad on Wednesday in the year 248 AH. He makes mistakes and contradicts [others]."
محمد بن يزيد بن رفاعة بن سماعة، أبو هشام الرفاعي، من أهل الكوفة، يروي عن أبي بكر بن عياش، وروى عنه أهل العراق، مات ببغداد يوم الأربعاء سلخ شعبان سنة ثمان وأربعين ومائتين، وكان يخطئ ويخالف.
