The Prophet Wept for Imam Hussain

Umm Salamah said: “The Prophet was sleeping in my house when Hussain came. I sat at the door and held him back, fearing that he might enter and wake the Prophet. While I became occupied with something, Hussain entered and sat upon the Prophet’s stomach. I then heard the Messenger of Allah sobbing. I entered and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I did not realize he had entered.’ He said, ‘Jibril came to me while he was sitting on my stomach and asked, “Do you love him?” I replied, “Yes.” He said, “Your community will kill him. Shall I show you the soil of the land where he will be killed.
وَعَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ـ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ـ قَالَتْ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ نَائِمًا فِي بَيْتِي، فَجَاءَ الْحُسَيْنُ يَدْرُجُ، قَالَتْ: فَقَعَدْتُ عَلَى الْبَابِ، فَأَمْسَكْتُهُ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ فَيُوقِظَهُ. قَالَتْ: ثُمَّ غَفَلْتُ فِي شَيْءٍ فَدَبَّ فَدَخَلَ فَقَعَدَ عَلَى بَطْنِهِ، قَالَتْ: فَسَمِعْتُ نَحِيبَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجِئْتُ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، مَا عَلِمْتُ بِهِ. فَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا جَاءَنِي جِبْرِيلُ ـ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ ـ وَهُوَ عَلَى بَطْنِي قَاعِدٌ، فَقَالَ لِي: أَتُحِبُّهُ؟ فَقُلْتُ: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ سَتَقْتُلُهُ، أَلَا أُرِيكَ التُّرْبَةَ الَّتِي يُقْتَلُ بِهَا؟ قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: بَلَى.
Tears for Ahl al-Bayt Are Rewarded with Paradise

Imam Husayn ibn Ali said: “Whoever sheds a tear for us, or whose eyes let fall a single drop for us, Allah Almighty will grant him Paradise.”
كَانَ حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ يَقُولُ: مَنْ دَمَعَتْ عَيْنَاهُ فِينَا دَمْعَةً، أَوْ قَطَرَتْ عَيْنَاهُ فِينَا قَطْرَةً، أَثْوَاهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الْجَنَّةَ
The Prophet Cried for Imam Hussain

Ali said that while traveling toward Siffin, he reached Nineveh and called out, “Be patient, Abu Abdullah, on the bank of the Euphrates.” He then related that he once entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and found his eyes overflowing with tears. The Prophet ﷺ explained that Jibril had informed him that Hussain would be killed on the bank of the Euphrates. Jibril gave him some of its soil, and the Prophet ﷺ said, “I could not keep my eyes from overflowing with tears.”
دخلت على النبي ﷺ ذات يوم وإذا عيناه تذرفان، قلت: يا نبي الله، أغضبك أحد، ما شأن عينيك تفيضان؟ قال: «بل قام من عندي جبريل - عليه السلام - قبل، فحدثني أن الحسين يقتل بشط الفرات» قال: فقال: «هل لك أن أشمك من تربته؟» قلت: نعم، فمد يده فقبض قبضة من تراب فأعطانيها، فلم أملك عيني أن فاضتا.
Al-Haythami states: “Ahmad, Abu Ya'la, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani narrated it; its narrators are trustworthy, and Nujayy was not alone in narrating this.”
رواه أحمد وأبو يعلى والبزار والطبراني ورجاله ثقات ولم ينفرد نجي بهذا.

Ali said: “One day I went to the Prophet ﷺ and saw his eyes overflowing with tears. I asked, ‘O Prophet of Allah, has someone angered you? Why are your eyes shedding tears?’ He replied, ‘No. Jibril had just left me and informed me that al-Hussain would be killed beside the Euphrates.’ He then asked, ‘Would you like me to let you smell some of his soil?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ He reached out, took a handful of earth and gave it to me. At that point, I could no longer hold back my tears.”
اصْبِرْ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ اصْبِرْ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بِشَطِّ الْفُرَاتِ قُلْتُ وَمَاذَا قَالَ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَعَيْنَاهُ تَفِيضَانِ قُلْتُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ أَغْضَبَكَ أَحَدٌ مَا شَأْنُ عَيْنَيْكَ تَفِيضَانِ قَالَ بَلْ قَامَ مِنْ عِنْدِي جِبْرِيلُ قَبْلُ فَحَدَّثَنِي أَنَّ الْحُسَيْنَ يُقْتَلُ بِشَطِّ الْفُرَاتِ قَالَ فَقَالَ هَلْ لَكَ إِلَى أَنْ أُشِمَّكَ مِنْ تُرْبَتِهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَمَدَّ يَدَهُ فَقَبَضَ قَبْضَةً مِنْ تُرَابٍ فَأَعْطَانِيهَا فَلَمْ أَمْلِكْ عَيْنَيَّ أَنْ فَاضَتَا.
