Uthman's killing: the role of the Sahaba and believers

Uthman Bin Affan's wife has been assaulted infront of his eyes but Uthman never defended his wife

Al-Kamil fi al-Tarikh, Ibn al-Athir, vol. 2, p. 68
When Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr left without killing Uthman, Qutayra, Sudan ibn Humran and al-Ghafiqi entered. Al-Ghafiqi struck Uthman with an iron rod and kicked the Mushaf, which fell into Uthman's hands and was stained with blood. When Sudan came to strike him, Uthman's wife threw herself over him. Sudan cut off her fingers, touched her body and spoke crudely about her, then struck Uthman and killed him.

Al-Durr al-Manthur, al-Suyuti, vol. 3, p. 559 (commentary on Surah al-A'raf, verse 144)
Through Rawh ibn Ubada, from Uthman ibn Attab, from Khalid al-Rabi': Uthman raised his hands and said, "O Allah, the believers have killed me."
The narrators are listed as reliable (thiqah) in Ibn Hibban's al-Thiqat: Rawh ibn Ubada (vol. 8, p. 243), Uthman ibn Attab (vol. 7, p. 199) and Khalid al-Rabi' (vol. 6, p. 252).

When the army from Egypt reached al-Juhfa and began speaking against Uthman, he heard of it, went up on the pulpit and said: "O Companions of Muhammad (s), may Allah curse you for speaking ill of me. You made my faults public, hid my virtues and turned the people against me."

Al-Isaba, Ibn Hajar, vol. 4, p. 378, entry no. 5452
It is narrated through many well-known, authentic chains that when Uthman was besieged, he appealed to the Sahaba about various matters.
